Campaigners are celebrating after two popular community land plots in top Mossley have been withdrawn from auction.
A third lot on Stamford Road, described as ‘overgrown and sloping land’ and close to the five-ways junction, has also been withdrawn.
But the fight goes on to prevent at least one other site from being sold by Tameside Council.
It has been confirmed land at Cosgrove Gardens, Carrhill Road plus Greaves Street/Cross Street will not be auctioned as planned at the AJ Bell Stadium, Salford on April 25.
No reason for the decision has been given by auctioneers, Pugh & Co, and Tameside MBC have yet to decide on the future of the sites.
However, land at Spring Street is still listed. Residents attended last night’s Mossley Town Council meeting (Wednesday April 12) and agreed a bid to take ownership of the 862 square metres site via a Community Asset Transfer scheme.
Land at Nield Street, off Lees Road, is also still in the auction.
