RUNNERS FROM throughout the area converged on Stalybridge Country Park for the Millbrook Monster.
There was a gruelling 10k for adults, something that didn’t deter 217 entrants, including a number from Mossley AFC Running Club and Saddleworth Runners. Perhaps it was a lure of a free chip muffin at the finish that enticed them!
The winner was Tom McGuinness, from East Cheshire Harriers and Tameside Athletics Club, in a time of 36 min 38 sec while the ladies winner was Caitlin Rice, from Glossopdale Harriers, who finished 18th overall in a time of a 44.08.
Second was Sale Harriers’ Gareth Raven in 36.59 while third went to Zak Miller, of Trafford AC, in 37.43.
There was also a Junior Monster 4k for children aged between nine and 13 years. It attracted 27 runners with Trafford AC’s Alexander Bailey the victor in 15.05.
The circular route for the adult race took in Walkerwood Reservoir, Harridge Pike, Higher Swineshaw Reservoir and Brushes Valley before finishing with a loop of the country park.
