The football season may be drawing to a close but there’s no stopping Mossley AFC Running Club.
Only formed last November, the group goes from strength to strength and is happy to recruit new members.
Meeting every Sunday at 9.30am at Seel Park, the expanding club plan evening runs on Wednesdays and Fridays during Spring and Summer.
And last month, a dozen beginners signed up for a ‘couch to 5K’ programme.
Club member Nicola Steen explained: “It all started when two ladies, who ran the Mossley 10k last July, contacted the football club with the idea of setting up a running club.
“It was decided to give it a trial run and on November 22, 13 people all of different abilities turned up and ran to the Farrars Arms and back. After that more and more people turned up each week.
“By the end of December, our numbers were 30 plus each week and we now had three different ability groups.
“From there a committee was formed, a website was built, sponsorship was gained, team colours and kit decided upon and various other actions happened and continue to happen.
“Each week we welcome more new faces with such great feedback from new and existing members all the hard work so far is really paying off.”
Sunday morning runs are divided into three categories: 4-5 miles, 6-7 miles and 8-12 miles. Returning to the club, there’s a final catch up in the Bob Murphy Suite for a brew and biscuit.
Members have now started to host social events with a successful quiz night held in March.
Potential new members are invited to attend on Sunday mornings and can check out the website at www.mossleyafcrunningclub.com
