Cup exit for Mossley as winless run continues

Mossley crashed out of the integro Cup on Tuesday as they were beaten at home by Ramsbottom United.

The Lilywhites’ loss in the third round saw their winless run now standing at nine games.

And in the last six games, Mossley have conceded a staggering 25 goals.

Joint managers Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison are looking to bring in experienced reinforcements before Saturday’s home game against Colwyn Bay.

Morrison took encouragement from the latest loss, explaining: “I was happy with the performance, though obviously disappointed with the result that was flattering to Ramsbottom.

“We were 1-0 down to a wonder goal at half time and in the game until we conceded the second goal after 83 minutes after we had gone three at the back hunting for an equaliser.

“Losing 2-0 or 3-0 is the same as 1-0 in the cup. Their second goal was from a counter attack from our corner while the third was a fluke from a cross.”

Ramsbottom took the lead after 28 minutes through a spectacular 30-yard strike from Eddie Moran, the highlight of an opening half that was a non event.

Mossley had great chances to equalise in the second half as Jack Tuohy’s free header flew wide, Tom Fisher fired narrowly wide and Tom Dean’s goalbound header was blocked.

Ramsbottom doubled their lead after 83 minutes following a counter attack with Chris Rushworth firing home a low shot.

And they added a third goal late on when Jerome Wright found the net from the tightest of angles as his low cross crept in.

Mossley: Martin, Quansah, Downey (Harrison 73), Ali. Dean, McLellan, Crothers (Ahmadi 79), Duffy, Ellis, Tuohy, Fish. Subs (not used): Evans, McLaughlin.
