Mossley bound Honey Bs have X Factor

THEY have performed privately for X Factor boss Simon Cowell and model Elle McPherson but now Stalybridge lad Dominic Halpin and his band are about to have an audience with a home crowd.

The Honey Bs

You say Honey, we say Honey Bs and their acclaimed show, King of the Swingers coming to the George Lawton Hall on Saturday, March 17.
And the appearance of Carrbrook-based Dominic and his fellow musicians in Mossley will be a brief break from their busy private and corporate shows.
Both music mogul Cowell and Australian model McPherson, nicknamed the ‘Body’, provided testimonials after the Honey Bs sang for them.
“Simon had organised an 80th birthday party for his mum at the Ritz in London,” explained Dominic.
“One of his favourite songs is ‘Summer Wind’ by Sinatra and either him or one of his staff had heard me sing it.
“So, we were booked for the birthday party attended by Simon and all his brothers.
“We did two shows for Elle at the time when she was going out with Arpad Busson.
“Each year they would hire out a castle in Whitby and invite all their celebrity friends. We were asked to provide the entertainment. They loved us so much they booked us the following week.”
The Band, that has also appeared on the same stage as American crooner Tony Bennett, has been in existence for about 10 years.
“It’s a fun, lively group which mixes up a bit of rock ’n’ roll, a bit of swing and bit of jazz,” explained lead singer and guitarist Dominic.
“We do lots of private shows around the country and overseas including a couple of cruises a year which is lovely. We just do public shows in between all our other stuff.
“This will be our first time at George Lawton even though we have done shows at the old Amber Lounge in Stalybridge.
“A lot of people I know locally are excited about the chance to see us.
“And this will probably be the closest gig to home I have ever done,” added Dominic who also goes out on the road with another band, the Hurricanes, and their country show.

Dominic Halpin

So, where does the Honey Bs name originate from?
“We were asked to appear alongside Tony Bennett on what at the time was the largest cruise ship in the world,” explained Dominic.
“Our name at the time was Dominic Halpin and the Suspects but because most of the passengers were American, the cruise company were reluctant to use a name with a negative connotation.
“We came up with the Honey Bs just so they could put something in their brochures.
“For some reason, the name just stuck. There is no real meaning behind it other than we didn’t want to offend the Americans!”
