FORGET Jules Verne or Michael Palin, the Mayor of Mossley’s civic dinner was the place to see the world in double quick time.
It only took an evening to navigate the globe at the annual Mayor’s event. this year organised by Cllr Chris Lyness.
Inspired by her love of travelling, she themed her civic dinner as ‘Around the World’.
Each of the 14 tables represented a different country, with Cllr Lyness resplendently dressed in an Indian sari.
That was in stark contrast to former mayor and Mossley Town Cllr Greg Brett, who celebrated partner Dianne Kerr’s Scottish heritage by attending as Rab C Nesbitt!
Cllr Lyness said: “Thank you to the Mayor of Tameside and the Mayor of Oldham for attending, as well as representatives from surrounding town and parish councils.
“It was a truly Mossley event with catering by John Stevenson of Manns Wharf and entertainment by Billy White and Gene Giles.
“The staff of the George Lawton Hall under the watchful eye of the manager Gary worked hard for us.
“This was a purely charity event towards the Mayor’s charities and all monies raised this year will be for community groups in Mossley.
“Events such as this take a long time to plan and I am indebted once again to the dedicated mayor’s committee for all their hard work for this and all other events we have held.
“It is very humbling to be the Mayor of this very special town and once again my grateful thanks go to everyone involved in any way.”
