NOMINATIONS are now open for the Pride of Tameside Sports Awards which showcases the best of the borough’s sporting talent, coaches, clubs and volunteers.
There are eight categories up for grabs and the winners will represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards in the autumn.
The awards, run by at Active Tameside and supported by Tameside Council, also aim to recognise the unsung heroes dedicated to getting more people involved in sport.
The seven categories for which people and clubs can be nominated are:
• Alex Williams volunteer of the year
• Changing lifestyle special recognition award
• Club of the year
• Coach of the year
• Disabled sports achiever of the year
• School commitment to PE and sport award
• Sports achiever of the year
• Unsung hero of the year
The executive leader of Tameside Council Cllr Brenda Warrington, said: “Helping to improve residents’ health and encouraging people to be active is a priority for this authority – as is highlighting those who go the extra mile to make a difference to their communities.
“We are very keen to hear about our many sports stars and sporting volunteers, and to give them the recognition they deserve.”
Shortlists will be drawn up and those nominated will be invited to the awards ceremony on Friday, September 28, at Dukinfield Town Hall.
