The 15-year-old from Mossley was persuaded to go on the 62-mile ride by her father Steven who was taking part with a group of 15 from Hopwood Hall College where he works.

Emily’s mother Laura said: “Emily is not a cyclist which made it even more of an accomplishment, especially as the weather was horrendous.

“She had not done more than 30 miles on a training run and, though she was tired, said not completing the ride was not an option.”

The group from Hopwood Hall raised more than £1,200 for The Christie.

Emily, who is studying for her Duke of Edinburgh silver award, is also a ballet dancer and has ambitions to work in law or politics.
