Heartbreak as Mossley bow out of the FA Cup

MOSSLEY suffered FA Cup heartbreak it was not for the want of trying as they lost to Kidsgrove Athletic.

And joint-manager Dave Wild thanked the healthy turnout of fans that turned up at Seel Park.

Long queues were spotted outside the stadium in the run-up to kick-off but a place in the third qualifying round was just beyond the Lilywhites.

However, were cursing after hitting the post three times!

And Wild said: “Can’t thank the support enough. Absolutely fantastic turn out and on behalf of all of us staff and players included we appreciate it more than you’ll ever understand.”

Max Leonard’s last minute penalty gave Mossley hope of grinding out a replay against the fellow Evostick League West Division side.

However, Anthony Malbon’s 72nd minute effort, which added to Kyle Diskin’s 48th minute strike proved decisive.

Mossley missed out on a £9,000 prize for victory but their FA Cup experience has breathed more life into the club as it goes for promotion this season.

And they had no hard feelings towards Kidsgrove, especially after the visitors left the away dressing room as if no-one had been in there.

“Absolute credit to our visitors today,” a spokesman said. “They left the Seel Park away dressing room absolutely spotless and bagged their rubbish.”
