Amy Shadbolt didn’t win the London Marathon but she couldn’t have been any happier as she crossed the finishing line on the Mall last month.
The mum of three set two personal bests and raised more than £800 for the Tots R Us voluntary play group based at Mossley Community Centre, Roughtown Road.
She even chased home former double Olympic Games gold medallist, Dame Kelly Holmes.
“I had a fantastic time,” enthused Amy, 39, who stopped the clock at 3 hours, 17 mins, 20 secs. “The atmosphere was amazing and the crowds were really supportive.
“I think it helped having my name on my top as everyone was offering words of encouragement as I ran round.
“The support at the Cutty Sark and Tower Bridge was particularly amazing. Awesome and goosebump provoking!
“I also managed a PB of 1:35 for the first half (13 miles) so double whammy!
“I think I was about nine minutes behind Dame Kelly which is incredible.
“Most importantly it raised all that money for the Tots group. A special mention must go to the customers and staff at Mossley Wholefoods who collectively donated over £190 as well as a lot of support on the Real Mossley Facebook page.”
On the same day a group of potential future runners also helped swell the Tots R Us coffers with a sponsored ‘toddle’ round Dovestone Reservoir.
Braving the elements, mums, dads, friends, family and not forgetting the youngsters, enjoyed a walk in the country.
To round off an enjoyable day, the grown ups attended the Mayor of Mossley, Lesley Bill’s charity event at Seel Park, where the group was awarded a donation towards the running costs of Tots R Us.
