HELPING people into work and keeping a local core is the key to Bennett Staff Bureau’s success.
The recruitment agency has celebrated its 60th anniversary by being named Small Business of the Year at the Pride of Tameside business awards.
But managing director Claire Wolstenholme – who has been with them for 28 years after starting as an office junior – was still blown away by their triumph.
And no-one can accuse them of not doing plenty for local charities, particularly Willow Wood Hospice.
“I’m absolutely made up, although it was a bit of a shock,” she said.
“We were shortlisted for two awards, one for us doing a lot of work with different charities, but it was brilliant to win Small Business of the Year in our 60th year.”
Bennett, based on Market Street in Hyde, helps people find jobs in the area and has a loyal and dedicated group of companies on its books.
It costs nothing to sign up to them and anyone who shows they have the skills and temperament to fill a certain position will be put forward.
Claire estimates they keep about 200 people in employment every week, getting paid wages and pension contributions thanks to them.
It is not just Tameside in which they operate, with clients in Stockport, Manchester and Oldham ranging from small businesses to nationally known names.
“We skill match our candidates to the jobs, and let the companies know when we have candidates available,” Claire added.
“A lot of the companies we deal with have been with us for a number of years, some of them were with us when I started 28 years ago!
“Our service is free for candidates, we don’t register everyone as we’re quite selective, but we do try and help everyone the best way we can.
“If someone doesn’t meet our criteria, we will advise them where to go for further help.”
With an award in 2018 already secured, eyes are now turning to 2019.
“There’s another couple of awards we’re going for,” Claire said. “So watch this space!”
