THE Commercial, an iconic Mossley pub, has reopened following an extensive refurbishment.
It has been undertaken by new owners Tim and Gillian Wood, who purchased the building in September.
The Commercial, in Bottom Mossley, has been closed since then while structural work as well as the refurbishment has taken place.
And it is very much a family affair as Tim and Gillian’s daughter Kelly and her partner Craig Speake are the new licensees.
Kelly, 30, who is a nail technician by profession, is no stranger to the pub trade as she has previously run the Hare and Hounds at Luzley which is also owned by Tim and Gillian.
And Craig, 33, who has his own cleaning company, also has experience having done relief work in pubs as well as running the bars at Dukinfield Town Hall.
Kelly and Craig, who lived in Heyrod, have moved into the accommodation above the pub.
They are excited to have their first pub and have exciting plans for its future following the lavish refurbishment.
“It was mum’s design and dad’s creation. He has done a lot of the building work and supervised the refurbishment,” explained Kelly.
That includes trying to get The Commercial as a designated stop on the Ale Trail as it is only yards from Mossley Station, having live musicians at weekends and also quiz nights.
Once the pub is up and running, Kelly and Craig will explore providing food as there is space for an industrial-sized kitchen.
