Dave Edwards opens the door and window to bring top improvements for your home

DAVE Edwards Double Glazing Ltd, Tameside’s longest established window company, has evolved greatly in an ever-changing world.

Since its formation in 1973 to supply timber windows, its range today is huge and encompasses windows, doors, porches and conservatories.

The latest innovation is a blind that is fitted inside a double-glazed unit and which is far more practical to use.

Previous customers include Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the most celebrated voices in opera, as they built a conservatory at her home in London.

Customers demand the highest standards of quality workmanship and Dave Edwards Double Glazing Ltd has stood the test of time in terms of reliability and durability to survive recessions and austerity.

And further proof of its trustworthiness is that the business is a member of Buy With Confidence, a scheme run by Tameside Trading Standards.

Sales administrator Jillian Edwards says business is booming, so much so that in the New Year they will be looking to take on a fitter and apprentice fitter to deal with an ever-increasing workload.

“We are already taking bookings into February which is really good in our line of business,” she said.

Jillian added the feed-good factor has returned to the consumer market.

She explained: “Due to the recession many people did not spend on their homes, but now they are doing a full house in terms of replacing all windows and doors.

“There may be a lot of uncertainty about Brexit but we have been very busy in 2018 and have had a crazy couple of years.”

Jillian explained nine out of 10 times their custom comes through word of mouth, adding her mantra is to treat people how she would like to be treated.

“We go over and beyond with our service and like to be pro-active,” she said.

The business has received glowing reports on the HomePro website with feedback such as ‘brilliant firm, customer friendly, good workmanship and hard working people’, ‘friendly local firm, no pressure sales’ and ‘from start to finish a very good company. No pushy salesmen. Did what they had to do very well’.

Jillian pointed out no job is too big or too small, varying from a couple of hundred pounds to a conservatory with a solid roof costing £20,000.

Though most of their customers are from Tameside and the surrounding area, the firm has done jobs as far afield as London and the Lake District.

It remains a family-run business that was founded by Dave Edwards who is managing director while his son Stephen is a director and sales and installation manager.

Dave’s wife Sue is company secretary and office manager while Stephen’s wife Jillian is sales administrator.

David and Sue’s daughter Emma Wickham is showroom assistant and the only non-family member is installations assistant Matthew Norcliffe.

Dave Edwards Double Glazing Ltd has been based for the last 20 years on Katherine Street, Ashton, where it has a showroom that is open six days a week as well as an extensive warehouse.

There is free parking on the street outside.
