Friendly approach keeps family firm in the fast lane

A STRONG sense of family pride and the ethos of ‘it’s not over once you hand over the money’ is really paying off for Steve Pearson Cars.

On the site of the old Bower Fold Motors on Acres Lane in Stalybridge, which was owned by uncle Derek Collins, the dealership is going from strength to strength.

A record year in 2018 has been backed up by strong aftersales work, treating customers like people, not numbers.

Steve also has showed his charitable side by donating a toy to radio station Key 103’s Mission Christmas appeal for every car he has sold.

Makes and models are not his speciality, low mileage and the condition of the used cars he takes certainly are – in his words, ‘It’s got to be mint.’

“My family has had this site for 25 years and I took it on under my name five years ago,” said Steve.

“I get people who bought cars from here returning with their kids or even grandchildren. 

“People who come are not just customers, they become friends.

“A car is a big purchase and here is certainly not like buying off the internet. 

“People come three or four times and get to know you – that personal touch is huge to us.”

Steve and his son Jack apply that personal touch to whoever walks on to the site – they are self-confessed tea addicts and always like a brew!

Business is going well but it is what happens after a sale that makes Steve Pearson Cars – who offer low rate finance to all customers and is FCA regulated – stand out, mainly because of a six point plan, including paying a fair price to people selling vehicles.

“Some companies may say they would offer £10,000 for a car then when they see it offer £2,000,” Steve added.

“We have a good look first so we can make a 100 per cent decision – loyalty builds and if you’re here for 25 years, you must be doing something right.

“We don’t want to be the biggest, we want to be the best.”
