MATTHEW Warhurst was the stand-out performer for Mossley Hollins High School in the Tameside Cross Country Championships that were hosted by East Cheshire Harriers.
Year seven student Matthew was victorious in the Under-12s race with ease to become Tameside champion for his age group.
Other outstanding individual performances included year seven’s Amy Starkey who finished fifth in the U12s, Darcey Platt ninth in the U14s, Wesley Farrington 14th in the U14s, Amber Wadsworth seventh in the U16s and Noah Vink and Mathew Smith seventh and 10th respectively in the U16s.
The outstanding team performances included the U16s girls and boys.
The U16 girls performed excellently with Amber Wadsworth seventh, Alexandra Knight 13th, Olivia James 14th, Grace Warrington 15th, Matilda Lees 16th and Erin Hollingsworth 20th.
The U16 boys team also impressed with Noah Vink seventh, Mathew Smith 10th, Oliver Taylor 16th, Brodi Oldham 18th, Kade Richards 23rd and George Chappell 40th.
All five competitors in both the U12 boys’ and girls’ teams finished in the top 40 of their races.
More than 40 students from years seven to 11 took part in the races, some of which had more than 100 competitors. The distances were 2.5km and 3.5km.
