Amazing Space! Half-term fun at Tameside libraries

Looking for activities to keep the little people entertained during the half-term holidays?

A week of amazing, inspiring and exciting scientific fun is coming to Tameside Libraries .

Free events for children and families to participate in during February half term.

Tuesday 19 February 2019 – Hands on Science
Dukinfield Library

9.30-10.30am Constellations Space Workshop for children aged 8+
Limited places must be booked in advance:

In this workshop, we talk about space right from the beginning by exploring galaxies, nebulas, supernovas and lights years.

Children get to investigate and identify constellations and make their own star finder to take home too.

11am – 12noon Exploring Black Holes for children aged 11+
Limited places must be booked in advance:

A fun, practical workshop which explores the tricky concept of black holes, discovering what they are through using the right words and practical investigations.  Children build their own black hole model to take home.

1.30-2.30pm Rockets Workshop for children aged 5-8 *
Limited places must be booked in advance:

Children discover all about making things move and fly, then design and build their own individual rockets, make some rocket fuel and launch them!

3-4pm Rockets Workshop for children aged 9+ *
Limited places must be booked in advance:

Children learn about energy and distance, then build and launch their own rocket with the aim to then land each one as close to a target ‘planet’ in a fun challenge!

Friday 22 February 2019 – Space Modelling
Mossley Library
9.30am – 12.30pm

Free family fun. No need to book, just come along on the day!
Create spacecrafts in a lunar landscape with Oldham Play Action Group! Use your imagination to build, play and explore space.


*This event is taking place during the library’s Open+ hours. Come to the front door of the library and staff will let you in for the event.
