Lord Pendry announces the death of his wife

CONSTITUENTS will be saddened to hear of the death of Lady Pendry of Stalybridge at the age of 80.

Moira, who died yesterday (Mon March 18) at a care home in Stalybridge, was married to Lord Pendry who was MP for Stalybridge and Hyde between 1970 and 2001.

The pair met in 1960 in Derby where Moira became the youngster alderman in the country aged 26.

She served as chair of education at Derby City Council and vice-chair of education for Derbyshire County Council.

And when Tom was elected MP for Stalybridge and Hyde she was hugely supportive in his constituency work.

Lord Pendry told the Correspondent: “Moira did so much work, especially with the Bangladeshi community in Hyde teaching the women English and community matters.

“She was a tireless worker in the constituency, a dearly loved mother to Fiona and Dominic and will be greatly missed by a lot of people.”
