Mossley fun runners support Jen’s fundraiser for Emmaus

AMY Shadbolt was an overall over 40 age category winner for Mossley AFC Running Club in the South East Lancs Cross Country Series.

And club-mate Angela Dewhurst finished third in the same age group in the series, which encompassed four races, several completed in extreme weather conditions.

In the team categories at the awards night, the Over-35 women achieved third place and sixth place in the women Over-40s and also the Over-45s.

The men’s Over-40 team achieved 11th place.

The club recognised these achievements would not have been possible without the support from Selina McLean who arranged and organised the Mossley team at these cross country events.

Eight members took part in the Huddersfield 10k.

This event is held on the last Sunday in February each year and is an exceptionally hilly course.

This race is rising in popularity each year and had almost 700 runners taking part this year.

Helen Gregory was fourth in her Over-45 age group (47:43), Steve Grainger ninth in the Over-55 age group (53:49), Colin Edwards 13th in his age group (55:10), Robyn Gregory 18th in the Under-23 age group (57:16), Lesley Moreland 25th in her age group (1:04:37), Ann Warburton (1:10:22), Sally Fillingham (1:25:55), and Claire Bent (1:28:11).

The annual Accrington Ron Hill 10k was attended by three club members and is run entirely on undulating roads.

Robyn Gregory joined the club in 2018, following in her mum’s footsteps, and has achieved steadily improving times. This came to fruition during this 10k race and she achieved first place in the Under 23 women category in 53:43.

There was a double celebration when mum Helen Gregory also achieved first place in her age category in 45:22. Steve Grainger also completed the race in an impressive 50:40.

Early March saw the first event in the Chester Triple. The Chester 10k is a fairly flat course that finishes uphill into the city centre. This was well attended by a large number of club runners and many will complete the half marathon in May and the Metric or Imperial Marathon in October to complete the Chester Triple.

The race results: Jack Homer (45:38), Adam Battersby (48:32), Paul Bates (53:01), Steven Bates (53:02), Lesley Moreland (58.33), Sharon White (59:00), Angela Wood (59:33), Claire Whitehead (1:02:35), Alyce Whitehead (1:02:35), Hazel Homer (1:04:24), Kerry Seel (1:05:35), Stephanie Hannington (1:10:34), Nicola White (1:12:59), Sally Fillingham (1:14:41).

The Irwell 20 is intended to support athletes training for a spring marathon. The course is an off-road event using the footpaths around the Irwell Valley Trail.

With a cut off time of 4hrs 45min the Mossley club members finished well within the time allocation.

Paul Anderson completed in 2hrs 58 min, and Danielle Butler and Louisa Szuminski in 3hrs 36min.
