NEW Saddleworth art gallery The Weavers Factory will support homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley on each bank holiday throughout 2019 by offering space for an Emmaus pop-up shop.
The shop will be housed in the loom shop on the upper floor of the grade II listed building on New Street in Uppermill.
The Weavers Factory, which opens for the first time on Saturday, April 6, is a new art gallery with a gift shop, workshop, tea bar, garden and two galleries.
Manager Nigel Durkan said: “Emmaus is a fantastic charity that crucially works on a local level, making a tangible difference to real people’s lives.
“Homelessness is a national tragedy so the work Emmaus do is more important than ever.
“We’re very proud to be able to help spread the word.
“Bank holidays are always very busy in Uppermill so hopefully people will come to the Weavers Factory, meet the team from Emmaus and buy some fantastic vintage gifts.”
Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting.
The charity runs a social enterprise in Mossley, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, clothes and vintage wares.
All proceeds from the pop-up shop will go to support the community of 26 formerly homeless people who live and work at Emmaus Mossley.
Retail manager Hazel Hodkinson said: “Every Bank Holiday Monday, we’ll recreate the four corners of the Emmaus Mossley secondhand superstore in the upper floor of the Weavers Factory.
“We’ll bring a van load of our finest items including vintage furniture, craft and upcycling materials, art supplies, bric-a-brac, books, vinyl and fab fashion.
“Join us at this new space, bag some brilliant items, learn more about Emmaus, meet some of our beneficiaries and give us your support.”
The pop-up shops will take place on April 22, May 6, May 27 and August 26.
