JENNIFER Stelfox is looking forward to making her marathon debut in London on Sunday, April 28.
The 26-year-old from Hey Farm, Mossley, won her place in the Virgin Money London Marathon through the ballot.
And a lot will be riding on the 26.2-mile run as Jennifer will be raising more than £2,500 for The Christie.
Dad Dave said: “Though Jennifer got in through the ballot and didn’t need to raise money, she wanted to do so for The Christie.
“It is a special cause as her granddad and mother of a friend both died of cancer.”
Jennifer, who works in the children’s department at the BBC’s Salford Quays headquarters, held a quiz night at Greenfield Cricket Club and there has also been cake bakes and other fundraising events.
Jennifer is a keen runner and has completed a number of half marathons, but this is her first try at the full distance.
Dave said: “It was the first time Jennifer had tried in the ballot and she was lucky enough to get in.
“Her training has gone well and she has done up to 23 miles.
“The only issue was getting a blister last weekend while out on a run in the hot weather.”
