Football legends return to Seel Park for reunion

MOSSLEY Football Club legends were reunited at Seel Park on Saturday, March 2 when the Lilywhites played Prescot Cables.

The 15 players returning included three members of their 1980 FA Trophy final team – goalkeeper John Fitton, midfielder and record appearance holder Jimmy O’Connor and ace striker Leo Skeete.

Two others were striker Eamon O’Keefe who was sold by Mossley to Everton for £25,000 and goalkeeper Gary Pierce who went on to play for Huddersfield Town and Wolves for whom he played in their 1974 League Cup final win against Manchester City.

The other players returning were brothers Kevin and Tony Burke, Bruce and Gordon Birtwistle, Alan Roberts, John Bain, Mick Turner, Jimmy Dowthwaite, Billy Mercer and Lenny Dickinson.
