IT has been a memorable start to the season for Micklehurst Cricket Club off and off the field.
The team, that languished in the lower reaches of division 2A of the Greater Manchester Cricket League last season, has got off to a flyer.
Micklehurst has won four of its opening six league games to sit third in the table.
Off the field, the club has completed an extensive refurbishment of its clubhouse including the kitchen at a cost of £17,000.
An insurance claim for more than £11,000 following last year’s flood helped pay for much of the work while the club stumped up more than £6,000 while £1,000 came from a grant from Lancashire cricket.
The work has included a bar refit, new flooring, carpets, blinds and plastering throughout. They have refurbished the kitchen so catering for functions can be accommodated.
Anyone looking at booking the club is asked to give a donation towards club funds.
The refurbished clubhouse was officially opened by president Derek Kippax in the week he celebrated his 80th birthday.
Secretary Julie Kippax said: “The general vibe is that the club is going from strength to strength.
“We have three junior teams, two at Under-9 and one U11. Thursday night practise for juniors is currently attended by more than 30 youngsters.”
