Councillor takes his marks in Mossley 10k to raise money for Fairtrade Mossley

MOSSLEY councillor Jack Homer is running the Mossley 10k on Sunday, July 14 to raise money for Fairtrade Mossley.

Fairtrade Mossley’s mascot Fair Ted was hoping to take part in the run and be sponsored, raising money to help maintain the town’s Fairtrade town status.

He said: “Being very small and having little legs I face a hard challenge. However, my friend Cllr Jack Homer is kindly helping out and running on my behalf. Please support your Fairtrade Town by sponsoring him at

Fair Ted will be out and about with free Fairtrade chocolate at the Marvellous Mossley event in Mossley Park on Sunday, July 21.

The local group said: “Chocolate is a treat for us. A living income is a human right for farmers. During 2019 Fairtrade is focusing on the women who grow the cocoa for our chocolate treats with the ‘She Deserves a Living Income’ campaign.

Fairtrade is the most widely recognised ethical label in the world and one that has paved a more conscious way of shopping since it started more than 22 years ago.

It currently works with 1.6 million farmers and workers across 74 developing countries, providing a safety net against volatile market prices and the Fairtrade Premium – often the only resource to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions.
