A NUMBER of members from Mossley AFC Running Club completed the Round Sheffield Run for the first time.
This race is a staged race with elements of recovery time between each stage. The race consists of 11 stages, of varying terrain and hills, which combine to make 20km of running with an additional 5km between stages.
This race starts and finishes in Endcliffe Park with a festival atmosphere in the park after the race.
Another new race for some was Round The Resers, a five-mile race in the Longdendale valley and consists of two laps of the reservoir near Tintwistle and is an enjoyable midweek event.
Taking part in this event was Julie Williamson who finished in 49min 2sec, Stuart Williamson (45:12), Nicola White (53:42) and Stephanie Hannington (53:30).
Tom Smith and Emma Bowen travelled to France, in the middle of a 40 degree heatwave, to complete the Mount Blanc 23km race.
This race has spectacular views but has a brutal course and was made especially difficult due to the unusually high temperatures.
There were a number of 10km races in June and July that had large numbers of the club taking part. These include the We Love Manchester 10k where Helen Gregory was second in her age category of F45+ with a time of 44:55.
Members also ran the Alderley Edge 10K with times of 58:24 for Lesley Moreland, Dominique Burney (1hr 10min, Claire Kinder (1:10), Sally Fillingham (1:20) and Joanne Sykes (1:25).
There was also the home Mossley 10k. About 70 members of the club entered the race so large numbers of orange T-shirts could be seen running the race and Amy Shadbolt finished as second female overall in the race with a time of 43:13.
The first Mossley AFC club runner to finish was Adam Battersby in 42:05.
A significant amount of volunteer marshals were also members of the running club and without their help the race could not have gone ahead.
