MOSSLEY AFC Running Club was among the prizes in the Racecourse Relays, though not first past the finishing post.
This event was organised by Prestwich AC to raise money for Riding for the Disabled and Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club.
This is the first year the event had been staged and it was a resounding success. The race was located at Kersal Wetlands and the site of the old Manchester Racecourse.
The relay involved teams of runners each completing one lap (2k) of the course before handing over their baton to the next runner. This was a fun event with plenty of fancy dress but there were also prizes for winning teams.
Mossley were second in the male competition with team Mossley Marauders comprising Adam Battersby, Rick Wilson, Karl Law and Shaun Mason.
They were also third in the female team for the Fine Fillies of Helen Gregory, Angela Dewhurst, Robyn Gregory and Louise Hallsworth.
A mixed team also achieved third place.
The UKFast City of Salford 10K welcomed thousands of runners through the streets and surrounding areas of MediaCityUK.
This annual event organised by Sports Tours International is always well attended by Mossley members.
Amy Shadbolt came seventh in the F40+ category with a time of 42 min and 15 sec. She was joined at the finish line by Paul Anderson 42:15, Ed Law 42:52, Helen Gregory 43:43, Ugar Capar 44:46, Robyn Gregory 47:50, Angela Dewhurst 47:57, Louise Hallworth 48:40, Selina Mclean 50:01, Joe Carroll 49:33, Steve Grainger 50:18, Lucy Hatte 54:22, Lee Slingsby 54:13, Kerry Seel 1:04:16, Katie Slingsby 1:07:03, John Howard 1:23:23, Helen Larndercox 1:23:25, Sarah Concannon 1:24:12, Linda Zrada 1:26:03, Sally Fillingham 1:27:30.
Every Saturday at 9am Stamford Park hosts its weekly parkrun event which is entirely run by volunteers.
On September 21, every volunteer role was taken by a member of the Mossley club with Karl Law in the role of run director. This is commonly known as a parkrun takeover.
This date was chosen as it celebrated John Howard’s 50th parkrun on his 70th birthday which is a great achievement. The conditions were perfect and there were 177 runners with 35 of these representing Mossley.
Amy Shadbolt was first female finisher and there were personal best times for this course for Robyn Gregory (24:20), Angela Wood (29:12), Sally Fillingham (38:45), and Isabelle Driscoll (41:21).
Pacers were provided by the club which helped many runners achieve their best times.
