MOTORISTS in Mossley are enduring a diversion and delayed journeys as a gas pipe replacement is underway.
Cadent is carrying out the work on Stockport Road, where there is one-way access.
Drivers are unable to head towards Uppermill and the diversion is along Stamford Road and Manchester Road.
In a letter to residents, Cadent described it as “essential pipe replacement work to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable service”.
The letter added the work, which is being undertaken in partnership with Balfour Beatty, forms part of Cadent’s 30-year pipe replacement programme that has been formulated with the Health and Safety Executive and industry regulator Ofgem. There is one-way closure on Stockport Road between the junction of Lees Road to Carrhill Road and the closure of Cross Street at the junction of Stockport Road.
The works began on October 14 and will last approximately four weeks.
The road diversion was put in place in line with the local Highways Agency agreement.
