Groovy lights in Mossley

GLOBAL Grooves have been brought on board to “enhance” Micklehurst’s Christmas lights switch-on.

The local arts group will provide some of their striking creations for the event on Friday, November 22 from 6pm.

“We will take along some of our larger puppets which will add impact to the Micklehurst event,” explained Leon Patel, Global Grooves’ CEO.

Global Grooves will also be involved in the Top Mossley lights switch on Saturday, November 23.

Leon added different sets and theatrical acts and performers will be used for that event.

They intend to stage three different shows with stunts on the Market Ground.

Global Grooves had wanted to revive the lantern parade which had been such a resounding success in 2017.

The blaze at Ray Mill, Stalybridge, which destroyed most of Global Grooves’ creations, meant a lantern parade last year was impossible.

Global Grooves had suggested a parade for 2019 but failed to secure funding from the Arts Council.

However, they will still be able to provide a display which will be contained to the Market Ground.

There will also be Mossley Community Centre’s Christmas market on November 23 at the George Lawton Hall between 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

• Mossley Town Council is holding a Christmas craft fair on Saturday, November 16 at the George Lawton Hall between 11am and 3pm.
