NORDIC Walking Tameside will be hosting a discovery day at The Allotment Cafe, Woodend Mill, Manchester Road, Mossley, on Saturday, February 22.
Nordic walking uses 90 per cent of your major muscles to walk, burns up to 46 per cent more calories, improves your posture, strengthens your core muscles, and tones your arms, legs and bum muscles!
It is also a very social activity, which combined with exercising outdoors means it is great for your mental health.
Nordic walking turns a walk into a workout, allowing you to walk further and faster without much effort, and is suitable for everyone regardless of fitness or ability.
If you can walk you can Nordic walk. Using two poles, you engage the upper body which makes you feel lighter on your feet. The poles help take pressure off your knees and joints, and Nordic walking is great for back, neck and joint problems.
Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.
Come along and meet their friendly instructors, as well as some of their walkers, and find out about the activities Nordic Walking Tameside offer.
Covering all Tameside, as well as South and South West Oldham, they have walks for all abilities five days a week from as little as £4 a walk. Nordic walking is a great way to get fit, tone your whole body and lose weight. Suitable for all ages (18+), fitness levels and abilities. Come and try it for yourself.
There will be free taster sessions at 11.30am, 1pm, and 3pm. Spaces are limited so book ahead if possible. All equipment provided, just bring yourself and wear suitable shoes (trainers or walking shoes are ideal).
There is also the chance to sign up for a Learn To Nordic Walk course at the reduced rate of £20 (saving £15).
