The former vets clinic on Stamford Street was transformed in just a week into ‘Loco’ and was opened in July by Natasha Freeman and her mum Michelle.

Brightly-coloured shelves now line the walls, filled with an exciting array of items including hair accessories, juggling balls, piggy banks, purses, clocks and more.

There’s also a large range of clothing for children aged 0-11 years old with everything from rain coats and summer dresses to formal wear, and a changing room to make sure it fits.

For adults, there is a wide choice of unusual and interesting gifts, such as champagne bottle candles, wine umbrellas, plaques, jewellery, mirrors and incense.

Each week new stock is added as Natasha and Michelle bring in requests from customers as well as refreshing their offerings at the shop, whose slogan is ‘stay local, go loco’.

“We have a lot of fun sourcing the products,” explained Natasha, who is mum to 10-year-old Jacob. “We’ve got lots of unusual items at competitive prices.

“There is nothing like this in Mossley and that is such a shame. If you suddenly remember you’ve forgotten to get a card or gift, you have to go into town so we wanted to change that.

“I’ve always fancied doing something like this and working for myself, so when the shop came up we just took the opportunity.

“Customers have said how lovely it is and I’ve got lots of friends who have young children who have said they really are impressed by what we have done.”

Mum Michelle runs the shop three days a week while Natasha works as teacher, and the pair are both dedicated volunteers at Mossley Football Club.

Michelle added: “We didn’t want to copy something that was already here. There are lots of cafes and salons but we wanted to be different.

“The name is a bit different too – Natasha’s grandad used to call her ‘poco loco’ which means ‘little crazy’ so it’s based on that, as well as sounding like ‘local’.”

Visit Loco at 31 Stamford Street, Mossley, OL5 0LL or call 07960 038717. Also find them on Facebook.
